Boulder, Colorado is home to an enormous collection of buildings called the National Institute of Standards and Technology, known as NIST. NIST’s mission is to promote U.S. innovation and industrial competitiveness by advancing measurement science, standards, and technology in ways that enhance economic security and improve our quality of life. Needless to say, NIST needs to stay up to date and on top of their building game.

So when it came time for a renovation of a 75,000 square foot wing of NIST, we used 3d laser scanning to measure the remaining areas. The final deliverable was a 2020 Revit model representing floors, walls, columns, roofs, windows, doors, and mechanical areas. In addition to the Revit model, Autodesk Recap files (point cloud files) were provided. Finally a 360 tour was hosted online and provided for reference. It always feels good to communicate clear and definite measurements to our clients in a fast and affordable way. This project was an empirical example of that.
